Sarge here, with your mid week update.
The Arcade-Hunters will be making an appearance at Castle Video in Branchville, NJ this Saturday for coverage of the NPL's Monthly Masters Tournament. This tournament is presented by (P3) Professional Pinball Players Association. If you're in the area, stop on by and you too could be "Gabbin' with the Arcade-Hunters"!
After getting back from holiday traveling, I've read up on these online reviews for the new version of Splatterhouse. Personally, I have to say that I can't agree with a lot of the lower scores. During the holiday, I had the chance to play the game and despite it's own technical flaws, the core values of the game as a good beat 'em up are there. Perhaps a lot of these reviewers are looking for some epic tale with a rich and deep meaning. You're not going to find it in this game. The formula for the arcade game (and ports) have always been :
1: Something bad happens to Rick and Jennifer.
2: Rick puts on the mask.
3: Rick turns up the ass kicking dial to MAX, leaves a trail of guts behind, and save the day.
4: Repeat process 1 through 3.
That's it. The game is mindless fun and able to be played as a quick pick-me-up game. Fans of the original will see that the game retains all the blood and guts of the original game with a few surprises for die hard fans. For beat 'em up fans, pick this up whenever you get a chance.
Question of the week: What's your favorite beat 'em up of all time? Leave your suggestions in the comment section below.
